Skilled Worker With Existing Work Permit

Full 2025 rule-book for Saskatchewan’s experience class: who qualifies, CUAET & LMIA work-permit rules, 6-month work requirement, 60-point grid, Job Approval Letter, document checklist and sector caps.

Last updated: July 16, 2025

Saskatchewan’s Skilled Worker with Existing Work Permit stream lets foreign employees already on the job - at least six consecutive months (780 hrs) with the same SK employer - convert their status to permanent residence. You need a valid IRCC work permit, a permanent SINP Job Approval Letter (JAL), and a ≥ 60/110 SINP grid score. But note: the 25 % nomination cap for Food-Service, Retail, and Trucking is already filled for 2025, so no new applications in those sectors will be accepted until the province lifts the freeze.

Below is the complete, citation-rich playbook.

1. 2025 Snapshot

  • Sector cap reached: Accommodations & Food Service, Retail Trade, Trucking NOCs paused for new nominations in 2025.
  • Work-permit types: CUAET, LMIA, and Mobilité Francophone permits accepted for TEER 0-5 jobs; other permit types limited to TEER 0-3 or designated trades.
  • Six-month SK experience: Must be consecutive, paid, ≥ 30 hrs/week for same employer + occupation as JAL.
  • Open spousal & PGWP holders must use alternate SINP streams (Health, Agri, Tech, Employment Offer).
