Dedicated Health Care Pathway

You can apply for nomination to gain permanent residence in Alberta through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) Dedicated Health Care Pathway if you have an Alberta job offer in an eligible health care occupation.

There are two options: Express Entry and Non-Express Entry.

  • You must meet all requirements when your application is submitted and when it is assessed.

Express Entry

You must apply through this option if you have an Alberta job offer in an eligible health care occupation and meet the eligibility requirements.

If approved under the Alberta Express Entry Stream – Dedicated Health Care Pathway, you will apply for permanent residence using the Government of Canada Express Entry process and are subject to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada's (IRCC) processing times.

Eligible Health Care Professions

Eligible Professions

The following health care professions are eligible under both Dedicated Health Care Pathways. Proof of ability to practice in Alberta must be provided from the applicable regulatory organization:

  • Physicians – College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)
  • Registered Nurses (RNs) – College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) – College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA)
  • Nurse Practitioners (NPs) – College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • Physician Assistants – College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)
  • Occupational Therapists – Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)
  • Physiotherapists – College of Physiotherapists of Alberta (CPA)
  • Clinical Social Workers – Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW)
  • Psychologists – College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP)

National Occupation Classification (NOC) Codes

NOC codes encompass various occupational titles.

If you apply for the Dedicated Health Care Pathway, you must provide:

  • Details about the occupation listed in your job offer.
  • Verifiable proof from the regulatory organization confirming your ability to practice the eligible health care profession in Alberta.

Eligibility Requirements for Express Entry

To qualify for the Dedicated Health Care Pathway via Express Entry, you must:

  1. Job Offer: Have a valid, verifiable job offer from an Alberta employer in the health sector (based on valid Workers’ Compensation Board coverage) for an eligible health care occupation. Learn more about job offer requirements.
  2. Regulatory Proof: Provide verifiable proof that you meet the minimum requirements prescribed by the applicable regulatory organization to practice the eligible health care profession in Alberta.
  3. Express Entry Profile: Maintain an active profile in the federal Express Entry pool, with your primary occupation listed as an eligible health care occupation.
  4. CRS Score: Have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 300.
  5. Federal Immigration Program: Meet the criteria of at least one of the following programs managed by Express Entry:
