Alberta Express Entry Stream – Eligibility
Eligibility requirements posted on this page are subject to change without notice. Selection parameters for invitations to apply to this stream may vary for individual selection draws.
In 2024 and early 2025, the AAIP will consider invitations to apply based on the following priorities:
- Family connection and primary occupation in demand
- Dedicated Health Care Pathway
- Accelerated Tech Pathway
- Law Enforcement Pathway
- Priority sectors, such as agriculture and construction
Ensure you read the process and requirements for each pathway below.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify to submit an application and receive a nomination, you must meet the following three types of requirements:
1. Minimum Assessment Requirements
The following minimum assessment requirements apply to all Alberta Express Entry Stream applicants:
- Active Express Entry Profile: You must have an active Express Entry profile in the federal Express Entry pool.
- Federal Immigration Program Criteria: You must meet the criteria for at least one of the following programs:
- Job Offer: If invited based on a job offer, you and your employer must meet the Alberta Job Offer Requirements.
- Intent to Reside: You must intend to live and work permanently in Alberta.
Ineligible Applicants
You cannot apply if:
- You are a refugee claimant or subject to a federal appeal or removal process.
- You have an active nomination under any AAIP stream.
- You are ineligible to reapply to the AAIP due to misrepresentation.
2. Pathway Requirements
Family Connection and Occupation in Demand
- Family Connection: You must have an eligible Alberta relative (parent, child, or sibling).
- Relative Eligibility: Your Alberta relative must:
- Be living in Alberta.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Dedicated Health Care Pathway
Refer to the Dedicated Health Care Pathway requirements before applying.
Accelerated Tech Pathway
- Eligible Occupation: You must have a full-time job or job offer in an eligible tech occupation.
- Job Offer Requirements: Meet all job offer and employment contract requirements listed here.
Law Enforcement Pathway
- Job Offer: You must have a valid job offer as an internationally recruited police officer.
- Identification: Be identified by the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police.
Priority Sectors
For occupations in agriculture or construction, ensure your job offer and primary occupation meet eligibility criteria.
3. Selection Draw Requirements
AAIP may apply additional selection factors during draws. Ensure your Express Entry profile is up to date and does not expire within five months.
